If you really want to Enjoy University Life, Never think of Attending GIJ

Let me vent my emotions
Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) is one of the best
universities in Ghana. It is popularly recognized as the best of the best when
it comes to academic activities and mostly communication studies. I have had
several encounters with some of SHS graduates who told me about how life in GIJ
is and how they wish they can transfer themselves to other universities
particularly University of Ghana (Legon). This is because of the pressure
students go through in terms of group assignment, group meetings just to mention
few.
Now let’s get to the reason for which I wrote this article. Due to the
hype that GIJ has being the best in communication which is very true; students in this
institution also act as such. They do not patronize entertainment programs to
the fullest. Even if the program is going for free, students of GIJ won’t
patronize it to the fullest. They will always tell you they have a group
assignment to work on. Meanwhile few of these people even attain First Class Honours.
So, how are they working on their group assignment then? Personally, the people who
annoys me the most are the ladies. Some act like they are so holy, so they
don’t attend most entertainment activities from some of the associations and
clubs on campus. Meanwhile what they do in their individual homes and hostels
will shock the devil himself. You can organize the best biggest party jam in
the world at GIJ and I bet you, it will turn into a gay party (only boys will
attend), unlike the University of Ghana (Legon), which I respect so much
because of their entertainment outline and programs. You can organized an event
on Legon campus without advertising the date of the event but you still get a
lots of people to come around to help you. But in GIJ, you can advertise it and
tell everyone to come around and help you or attend; if God is not on your side
you will postponed your event.
Now, some words to the SRC Executives and its board members. It
is about time you guys should recognized the importance of SRC Week Celebration and what it
means to us. This is the week you guys should package and organized something
big for us since it’s the only week we can use to entertain and educate ourselves
together but I realized that you guys are not making any effort to make our SRC
week a memorable one. The SRC Executives can call these entertainers on campus
to come and exhibit their talent and also cheer us as well. And at least, small
motivations should be given from them (the entertainers).
Finally, let me quote this popular saying “All work and no
play, makes Jack a dull boy”. We should not tune our mindset to learning,
learning…blah blah blah just because we in school. Remember, it is a
University. It is a universal city so try and socialize, attend events,
programs, seminars etc. And this is to the world at large, if you are thinking
of coming to GIJ because of entertainment then I will advise you not to even
make an attempt picking up a form. Because, the educational system here is dominated by education programs and activities.
I hope and pray this changes.
